About This Tea

White Crown - Bai Ji Guan is one of the “The Four Famous Bushes” along with Da Hong Pao, Tie Luo Han and Shui Jin Guan. It is produced in the tea trees in the outer ghost cave (外鬼洞) and in the back of Wuyi Mountain Temple. Bai Ji Guan has peculiar buds and leaves, the buds are curved and fluffy, and the shape resembles the crown on the head of a white brooder, so it is called White Cockscomb.

Bai Ji Guan is mainly used as an auxiliary tea for the Taoist priests of Zhi Zhi An (止止庵) to meditate and cultivate their health. Compared to Da Hong Pao, the “Buddhist tea” originated from Tianxin Temple in Wuyi Mountain,  is the only “Taoist tea” in Wuyi Mountain. Wuyi Mountain in the eyes of Taoism is the sixteenth of the thirty-six cave days, Bai Ji Guan is precisely with its unique qi nourishing effect to achieve the sixteenth cave days “Taoist tea” status, so as to get on the gold list of the four famous bushes.

*Tea leaves contain tea polyphenols and caffeine, which are the source of the bitter and astringent flavour of the tea soup, as well as the source of the sweetness. Reducing the amount of tea leaves, lowering the water temperature or speeding up the soup can reduce the bitterness and astringency.
